INGREDIENTS – makes 3 double lattes
- Six Cups of Water
- 3 Cups of Vanilla Unsweetened Almond Milk
- 1 Tbl Maple Syrup
- 3 TBL Coconut Oil
- 6 Green Tea Packets – I use caffeinated, but use what is best for you
- 1 Tsp Nutmeg
- 1/4 Tsp Cinnamon
- Dash of Pink Himalayan Salt
INSTRUCTIONS
Start by bringing 6 Cups of water to a boil in a large stock pot. While that is heating, get out 3-6 tea packets and remove from packaging.
Meanwhile, prepare the latte portion. Start by adding 3 Cups of Almond Milk and the seasonings to a glass pitcher or bowl. A pitcher works best as you can later pour from this easily but either works. Add all ingredients to the almond milk except coconut oil. Whisk until well combined. Some of the spices may not blend completely at this time as the milk is cold. Once added to the hot tea they should mix in well.
If you have a little more time, you can skip this step and just wait to the tea is brewed, then add all ingredients into the stockpot as it will blend nicely.
Once the water is just barely to a boil. Remove from heat and add all 3-6 Tea Packets. Let steep per package instructions. Once done, add 3 Tbl coconut oil to the hot tea. Whisk well. Pour the tea into the almond milk mixture. Whisk until everything is well combined.
Once done, taste test. Adjust as needed.
Portion:
This mixture makes 3 double lattes so two servings in each jar. This cuts down on the space in your fridge and allows for a larger latte at the same time. You can enjoy the whole thing or pour one cup out and enjoy just that. It’s totally up to you! I love drinking my warm drinks in a mug so I warm the whole jar and then pour out what I need into a large coffee mug.
I got out three quart mason jars and three sets of lids. To each jar I evenly portioned the latte mixture out by adding about 3 Cups of the mixture to each. I allowed the latte to cool, then placed the lids on to store in the fridge for the week.
To Serve:
In Mason Jar – simple remove the ring and lid then warm the cold latte up in the microwave. Heat to your preferred temp, I like mine hot but drinkable so not super warm. Enjoy as is or top with a little more spice if you want homemade coconut cream or a pinch of coconut flakes.
NOTES:
I really like having this tea as a delicious alternative to sugary or high calorie caffeinated drinks a few times a week. Its a nice afternoon pick me up and warm drink to cozy up on these winter days with.
You can sub caffientate tea for decaf tea to avoid caffeine if you would like this latte later in the day, before bed or are unsure how the caffeine might affect you. You can compare the caffeine content on the tea label to that of coffee and adjust it to your preferences.
COMMON QUESTIONS
What type of tea is best – I like to use plain and organic varieties whenever possible. My local store doesn’t carry it so I went with Bigelow Brand this round. it has a really nice flavor and it also comes in a lemon flavor which I love in the summer too.
Other brands I have tried are Tazo and I also love using Matcha tea as well. That is a slow release tea so I only like to have it early on in the day and since I usually like my lattes in the afternoon I go for the tea packets.
Almond Milk- If you want a thicker and creamier latte you can sub the Unsweetened 30 calorie almond milk for a regular or you could add in some heavy whipping cream and give it a good mix. This will add a thicker creamier consistency.
For a frozen drink – Blend this together with a cup of two of ice until it’s thick and shake like.
Over Ice – This is also really good over ice – simply cool the tea then pour over a cup of ice and enjoy for cold refreshing drink
